Horan gives talk for World Cup warm-up

RUGBY legend Tim Horan told fans in our town he thinks the Wallabies have got the right stuff for the World Cup that kicks off this weekend. “We’ve got a great opportunity,” he said, “I think we’re the second best team in the world at the moment. “The All Blacks are still the best team in the world right now and will be favourites for the World Cup.” But he knows what a good environment the tournament is, and with Australia’s recent win over New Zealand he thinks we’ve got the momentum for it too.
“To beat New Zealand in New Zealand is going to be a very difficult task. “It could be done though,” he said. Horan went on to rate Drew Mitchell coming back from injury, as well as Radike Samo for playing his first test match since 2004 against the All Blacks. “He’s certainly one to watch out for. The side has really good depth now,” he said.
Another subject he tackled was his history with club rugby, including his time with the Souths Club in Brisbane. He compared it to Port’s Vikings and Pirates - playing for your local club is what rugby is all about. Horan was in Port Macquarie for a Rugby World Cup lunch at Town Green Inn and talked about different aspects of the game with attendees. “It’s a lovely little city. It’s my first time visiting here and I’ve enjoyed it,” he said.
