Spy v Spy back with a string of new material along with the old
AUSSIE rockers Spy v Spy will be rocking up a storm on the Coffs Coast. Aside from Midnight Oil, Spy v Spy is arguably one of Australia's most politically-orientated rock bands. While Midnight Oil's politics were those of conscience, Spy v Spy was an outspoken representative of 'the street'. Primarily they started out as the voice of the homeless squatters of early '80s Sydney, but their songs spoke for everyone who felt under the thumb of 'the system'.
The original group came from separate corners of the world - guitarist Mike Weiley arrived in Sydney from London and almost immediately found a soul-mate at Nelson Bay High School in would-be bassist/singer Craig Bloxom. American Craig had studied in Alaska for a time, but arrived in NSW in his teens via WA. The group's token Australian. drummer Cliff Grigg, arrived in Sydney from Armidale, NSW, and settled in an inner suburban squat in Glebe that didn't even have a roof when he first moved in.
After huge success and fame throughout the world, the boys are now back - albeit with a new line up - but don't be fooled into thinking this is a nostalgia act. Original guitarist Michael Weiley has enlisted legendary Australian singer/songwriter Dave Wilkins into the fold with great success and the guys are dedicated to releasing new material to sit alongside their string of hits.
Not only is the line-up new and improved, the band plays The Spy's back catalogue of hits with a renewed energy.
Don't miss them at the Macca on Thursday June 10th and Plantation Hotel on Friday, June 11. |
