THE Silly Billies may have been the stars at the Plantation Hotel last weekend, but there was nothing silly about the reason for the show. More than 70 kids packed into to the free event on Sunday all in the name of raising funds for the Coffs Coast Apex Toy Library. Giving up all their piggy bank money as a donation to watch the show, the kids had a ball and as a result raised cash for the library, which is run by volunteers.
"We just want to say a huge thank you to the Plantation Hotel and the Silly Billies for the day," Coffs Coast Apex Toy Library secretary Michelle Southcott said "We raised $130, which is a lot of money for us - and all from the loose change in kids' pockets. "Without businesses doing things like this the toy library would not survive." She said any other businesses wishing to get behind the toy library should give them a call. "We are also happily receiving donations of second-hand toys," she said.
The Plantation Hotel licensee Anthony Brady said the hotel was more than happy to help. "We're delighted to rally support for community services that may not have the means to raise funds themselves - for services like the toy library every dollar counts," he said.
