Party marks end of a hairy month at hotel

Daily Mercury - Wednesday 1/12/2010
FOR the third year in a row the team at the Shamrock Hotel has thrown razors to the wind in support of the Movember Foundation, and this year the results have been rather colourful. Throughout the month of November, the Shamrock Hotel has encouraged staff and patrons to 'grow a mo' to raise funds and awareness for the Movember Foundation.
The Shamrock community has shared tales of their mo-growing efforts and their Mo Sistas' patience, and have sparked public conversations around the important issue of men's health. "The involvement in Movember activities has grown stronger and stronger every year and this year patron and staff involvement has been taken to another level," Shamrock Hotel venue manager Phil Cardwell said. "It's really exciting to see the support shown within our little community." Fundraising activities throughout the month of November at the Shamrock included weekly social club raffles and the placement of gold coin donation boxes throughout the hotel.
It concluded with a Mo Men party on Friday, November 26. "The Mo Men party included a barbecue for guests, a shave station and live auctions," Mr Cardwell said. "We even had a pair of budgie smugglers signed by Tony Abbott to auction off." The Shamrock Hotel hoped to better its 2009 fundraising efforts, when over $23,000 was raised by the NLG Hotel Group for the Movember Foundation. "It's been a fantastic month of fundraising at the hotel and the party closed out Movember with a bang," Mr Cardwell said.
Each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's faces around the world.
