Lawson Takes Best And Fairest Gong

5th October 2011 - Daily Mercury

FLANKER Ryan Lawson has won the Slade Point Rugby Union Club's A-grade best and fairest award for the 2011 season.

It was the second year in a row that Lawson had taken out the club's highest individual playing honour.

The award capped off an outstanding year for Lawson, who maintained a high level of consistency throughout the home-and-away campaign.

More than 60 players, wives, girlfriends, sponsors and supporters of the Slade Point Rugby Union Club attended the presentation night at the Andergrove Tavern on Saturday night.

Special guests included major sponsors Ron, Noela and Dustin Lowrey, of Allphones Mackay, and 2011 Super 15 Rugby Championship winning Queensland Red Liam Gill and former Slade Point junior and current Australian Sevens Rugby Train-on Squad member Ben Adams.

Gill gave the audience an insight into the Reds' system and life as a professional footballer.

He also presented trophies on the night.

Members of Slade Point's back-to-back premiership winning reserve grade side were on hand to collect their premiership medallions.

Big winners on the night included the Adams family, where Michael Adams was awarded club life membership for more than 20 years of involvement and service to the club as a player, coach and administrator.

His wife and sponsor, Kellie was awarded the Ralph Barben Memorial Trophy for Supporter of the Year, and their son Jake won the A-grade Most Dedicated trophy.

A-grade captain Shaun Tucker also had a busy night, collecting the club's Its and Bits award, Front

rower of the Year, A-grade Best Forward and the club's Players Player.

Phil Tudehope collected the prestigious Clubman of the Year award, and 18-year-old junior Nick Garland won the club's Rookie of the Year.

Elijah Smith won the reserve grade Best and Fairest.
