THE KOORINGAL HOTEL PREPARES FOR THEIR ANNUAL GOLD CUP CALCUTTA AS THE TOWN OF WAGGA GETS GOLD CUP FEVER

On the eve of the race that stops; well, Wagga, the Kooringal Hotel will host their annual Gold Cup Calcutta. This Thursday 5th May, the Kooringal Hotel will open the draw to their Gold Cup Calcutta at 7:30pm. The draw, costing patrons to the hotel $2 to enter, will be hosted by local favourite retired jockey, Mal Johnston and NRL great Paul Langmack. Tickets into the Calcutta are on sale at the venue now.

This annual event hosted by the Kooringal Hotel is “a great opportunity to get involved with the Gold Cup atmosphere and excitement that takes Wagga by storm each year” said Licensee Nic Barnett.

The Wagga Gold Cup Racing Carnival is a prestigious horse racing event, attracting a top field of horses, along with popular social, sporting and media personalities to Wagga Wagga every year.

“We have some family ties with the Gold Cup this year” continued Nic. “Our very own; John Witts’ (assistant manager at the Kooringal Hotel) brother is an owner of one of the local chances in the Gold Cup, Universal Pack, so we will all be watching intently and cheering on the horse throughout the race”.

To enter the Kooringal Hotel’s Gold Cup Calcutta, patrons are encouraged to get down to the hotel this Thursday. Horses will be raffled off which will be followed by a ‘sometimes heated but always entertaining auction’ described Nic. The auction will be run by Matt Ward from Rundles Auctions.

On completion of the auction, half of the money raised will go to the person who draws each horse in the raffle with the other half going into the prize pool which will be awarded to the people who buy the top three placed horses after Friday’s race.

“The whole night is a really fun and enjoyable celebration” said Nic. “With both Paul Langmack and Mal Johnston hosting the night this year, it is sure to be a great laugh and a good way of getting involved in the Gold Cup excitement.”
