ONE HOUR FOR THE WORLD
NLG Group votes ‘Earth’ with their Earth Hour Appeal

On Saturday 26 March, the National Leisure & Gaming Hotel Group (NLG) will be voting ‘Earth’ by switching the lights off in all of their 4137 venues, for one hour from 8.30pm. The fundraising initiative is part of Earth Hour 2011, now in its 5th year in the stand against climate change; Earth Hour has become a truly global movement, embracing 128 countries and territories worldwide
“At NLG we recognise that climate change is one of the most significant threats to the sustainability of our planet. But it’s surprising that few people realise that even small acts of environmental consciousness, such as switching the lights off when they’re not in use, can make a huge difference to minimising our impact on the earth’s resources,” said Dan Brady, CEO, NLG Hotel Group.
“As a firm supporter of Earth Hour we are encouraging as many people in the community to ‘vote Earth’ on March 26 by visiting their nearest NLG Hotel Group venue to experience their local bar or pub by candlelight. It’s a small act of unity that will make a real impact to the earth.”
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the charity behind Earth Hour 2011, campaigns to keep the world under a global average temperature increase of 2 degrees Celsius which scientists agree would result in dangerous and irreversible climate change with dramatic social, economic and environmental impacts. To play our part Australia must reduce emissions by at least 25% by 2020 and by at least 90% by 2050. WWF-Australia is calling for a range of measures to reach this goal. Earth Hour 2011 will assist in raising the collective awareness around the challenges presented.
