If you have every dreamed of running a hotel or a nightlub, or rubbing shoulders with the best music acts in Australian as part of your job, Tristan Powell will make you Blue with envy. He does both.

Not only does he run the Gladstone Reef Hotel, Tristan is also the entertainm,ent manager of the The Blueroon Nightclub, responsible for bringing Australia's hottest bands and DJs to the Gladstone area.

"Some people get pretty jealous when they find out what my job description is." he said "I just love working w3ith the people that come theough the door to have a good time. Everyone is so relaxed, and there's no two people alike."

After seeing an opportunity to work his dream job, Tristan moved to Gladstone 18 months ago and has hardly looked back, not even for a well-earned break from the helter skelter lifestyle of working in the hospitality industry.  "I love it here so much, I hardly leave, not even for a holiday," he said with a laugh. "It's so laid back here."

The blue room is hopst to many underground musical acts and DJs such as White Zebra, Timmy Trumpet and DJ Bob Dazzler. It is also a hub of entertainment in the Gladstone region. "The Hoodoo Gurus will be playing here soon to promote their new album" he said. "They're a great bunch of guys and they're looking forward to relaxing after the show. I think they'll be amazed at the people who come to the Blueroom to unwind. "I'm pretty sure people will be looking forward to seeing them.

We recently had Kid Kenobi come and play here and he was blown away at how relaxed everyone was and how friendly everyone was in the town." When he's not organising bands and DJs for the Blueroom, you'll find Tristan behind the desk running the Reef Hotel.

"Every day is different at the hotel," he said. "I've never had the same type of day and the characters never cease to make me smile at how lucky I am to live in such a relaxed place.
