30 years on; ‘A Night with the Originals’

On Saturday 19th June, The Andergrove Tavern will host the 30th reunion dinner for the original 1980 QLD State of Origin team. The legendary line up of guests will include Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga, Colin Scott, Rod Ready, Norman Carr and more.

On the eve of what could be another ambush of the State of Origin series by the Queenslanders this year, the 30th Reunion Dinner will celebrate the history of rugby league in Queensland; a history forged in 1980 with today’s ‘legends of the game’.

During that historic game in 1980 where Queensland outclassed the New South Wales side 20 points to 10; tries were awarded to Kerry Boustead and Chris Close with seven goals going to Mal Meninga. The Team, which consisted of Colin Scott; Kerry Boustead, Mal Meninga, Chris Close, Brad Backer; Alan Smith, Greg Oliphant; Wally Lewis, Rod Reddy, Rohan Hancock, Arthur Beetson (c), John Lang, Rod Morris, Norm Carr and Bruce Astill, was coached by  John McDonald.

Hosted by Kevin Langer, the 30th reunion dinner at the Andergrove Tavern will pay tribute to the original legends of the game. The night will be attended by up to ten of the original team members including Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga and Colin Scott. The night will feature some historical memorabilia auctions with all proceeds raised going to the local fire brigade; who are equally renowned within the local community.

The Andergrove Tavern Venue Manager, David Van Den Boom said; “The history of Rugby League and today’s iconic State of Origin was shaped by this team. We are excited to have the opportunity to pay tribute to such a notable group of people on this, their 30th Reunion, whilst raising awareness and much needed funds for the local fire brigade whose notable achievements need no explanation”.

“A night with the Originals” will be hosted by Kevin Langer at the Andergrove Tavern this Saturday 19th June. Tickets are still available for $120. Book early to avoid disappointment on what will be the night of nights for all great sports lovers!
