Love is all around at The Andergrove Tavern
Daily Mercury - 12th April 2010
Fallon Hudson and Eric Kok on their date at the Andergrove Tavern. CAN the Daily Mercury’s Fallon Hudson find love in five days?
Fallon accepted Sea FM’s five dates in five days challenge after writing a column claiming that Mackay had a man drought.
Read all about her dates below.
Fallon's first date
AS I walked into the Andergrove Tavern, I felt my legs wobble and my heart thumping. Never in a million years did I think I would be so nervous to sit down and have dinner. But then again I was going to share a meal with a complete stranger.
Date one of five dates in five days. All I could think was, don’t stress everything will be fine and if it’s not all it will take is a discrete SMS to be saved and I can run for the hills.
But when I met bachelor number one, gosh I sound like the host of Perfect Match, I was pleasantly surprised, that Eric Kok was just as nervous as I was.
And you will be happy to know that I did not have to run for the hills, instead I got to know a little bit about Eric, who is a horticulturalist and works as a landscaper for a local builder.
I started to freak just a little bit when Jay from SeaFm plonked his microphone in the between the bottle of wine and the candles.
From there all I could think of was don’t say anything inappropriate.
I also found out that Eric was born and raised on a farm in South Africa, loves to travel and cook. As the conversation flowed I also found out he was born two days after me on May 12....how bizarre.
Even though there were a few moments of awkwardness, trying to find another element to the conversation. Eric was a lovely bloke, who, in the past has found it difficult to meet someone in an atmosphere where you can get to know someone more, rather then just first impressions.
Even if I was daunted about this social experiment and I was worried about what I would say and wear, like most young women; I left knowing that first dates can start off scary.
But by the end of the night it was refreshing to have a great conversation with someone who was brave enough to go on a recorded, blind date and pose for a photo for the Daily Mercury.
So with one date down, I am ready to tackle date number two...wish me luck.
