Mackay venue The Andergrove Tavern will be holding a Battle of the Bands competition every Saturday night in February with a first prize of $2000 cash. Bands will be rocking it out on the stage to gain votes from the crowd and secret judges; to go into the final which will be held on Sat 3rd of March.
“We’ve had some really big acts play here in the past; Butterfly Effect, COG, Angus & Julia Stone and Eskimo Joe, just to name a few. But this competition is about giving those unknown bands the chance to show their skills, and who knows, we just might help find the next Grinspoon” said Mark Singh the Andergrove Tavern Venue Manager.
“Each week will be themed with different genres from Classic rock, Heavy Metal, Hardcore and Chilled out Rock; each band will also be asked to play a minimal of 2 original songs which will give them a chance to show off their writing & artistic talents” continued Mark.
Local business have come on board to help support the local live music scene with Mackay Music offering a $500 gift voucher for the runners up of the Competition and LA Entertainment offering recording time, professional advice as well as a professionally recorded and mastered CD of all of the finalist performance.
Patrons will have the opportunity to get involved by entering the half time ‘Air Guitar’ competition with awesome prizes up for grabs as well as specials all night long.
